HOW TO EXPLORE HIMALAYAS OUR TRAVEL STORIES

Bhrigu Lake Trek Without Tent | June 2017

I don't imagine adventure. I live it every moment I spend in the mountains.

Bhrigu Lake is located to the east of Rohtang Pass and is around 12 Km from Gulaba village. It can be reached by trekking either from the Vashishth temple, which is famous for its hot water springs, which is close to the town of Manali or from Gulaba village. Actually there is no settlement in Gulaba and is actually an area of the Pir Panjal mountain range. It is named after Maharishi Bhrigu.

We four friends accomplished Bhrigu Lake Trek in June Last Week 2017 in Three Days. It is one of the most scenic trek located at an elevation of around 4,300 metres in Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh, India. This trek starts from Gulaba Near Manali. We found Dhaba Food in Rola Khuli but no tent (Somehow managed later), So arrange tent before going for this trek in Manali to have no issues.

THB Travel – THE HIMALAYAN BOYS

Day 1 :- After reaching Manali we took a cab to Gulaba where we got some refreshments and cold drinks for the trek. It was sunny day and we had no guide with us but with some directions by the locals we found the trail to Bhrigu Lake. It was already at such height that there was no treeline left and only meadows left in the trail till Rola Khuli. After few hours of walking in the meadows the sunny weather started to become super awesome with cold breeze and clouds movement around us. We also found one dhaba in between where we had our Maggi and moved further. Now we reached to Rola Khuli in the evening after enjoying the beautiful trail of meadows and super awesome views of surround very huge mountains, waterfall, peaks & glacier. Rola Khuli is like Base Camp site for Bhrigu Lake with plenty of Camps and one Dhaba Wala. After reaching to Rola Khuli we found that there is no camp available with dhaba wala for us to stay but he could arrange the food. Therefore after lot of discussion the other camp operator we found little space for us to stay (Therefore I would advise to carry your own camp in this trail). It was already too dark and we were tired so after we had our dinner, we took a rest for the day.

Day 2 :- We woke up next day and had our breakfast. It full of trekkers then from different part of India and some school kids group too. Then we moved along with other group without any guide of our own. Although it was well marked trail but weather can make it worst at any time. After the steep hike from crossing the chilled river we somehow lost the marked trail but with little help fellow people we found the right direction. It was a moment of excitement when we first saw the straight wall of ice which we had to trek. Although the steps were already made in it by others and many other groups were also going through that along with us. So we were not alone otherwise this could have been terrifying experience. Surprisingly we also found 4G network in our mobile at that height from which we also made video call to others. At last we reached to Bhrigu Lake which was looking amazing but crowded with too many people like a picnic spot, having fun, chill and food there. It was kind of unexpected truth otherwise the whole experience of trail was super awesome. We came back from Bhrigu lake after spending some quality time there, now the river started overflowing due to snow meltdown in afternoon therefore we had to take off our shoes and jumped into the chilled river to cross it. When we realized the amazing shivering experience of river crossing. As weather was already started turning bad therefore we decided to avoid going to Manali on same day. After that we had some tea and stroll around for picture and in the night after the dinner we took a rest for the day.

Day 3 :- Next morning after we had our breakfast we moved back towards Gulaba but we had face the heavy downpour of rain at last. We couldn’t able to escape it and without raincoat we had to somehow save our bags with poly bags but had to let ourselves complete wet. Another problem was the slippery trail where we couldn’t able to stand properly, therefore we later on started walking on grass. Somehow we managed to reach Gulaba on time where our cab driver was waiting for us. Then we reached Manali from where we took our Bus to Delhi.

  • It was full of adventure and excitement with some lessons.
  • These are few pics of our experience.
