Here is the compilation list of amazing festivals of Indian Himalayas which nobody shouldn’t miss out. Although there are multiple festivals across the Himalayas through out the year but this is about 10 awesome festival of Indian Himalayas to make your travel more memorable.

1) Hemis Festival

About – The 2 day long colorful festival showcases the beautiful local handicrafts and lovely traditional attires of natives to mark the birth anniversary of Guru Padmasambhava in the courtyard of Hemis Monastery.

2) Himachal Winter Carnival

About – It is 4 day long festival with local Crafts Market, Himachali Food Festival, folk dances, local band competition, and street play.

When :- JanuaryFebruary | Where :- Manali, Himachal Pradesh

3) Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra

About – It is 280 km long trek / procession and taken up after every 12 years from Nauti to Homekund.

4) Saga Dawa

About – One of the most important festivals of Sikkim. It is celebrated with much enthusiasm to mark the day of birth, enlightenment, and Nirvana of Gautam Buddha on same day.

5) Pangsau Pass Winter Festival

About – It is a 3 day long extravaganza, full of events that showcase the diverse cultures of Northeast India and Myanmar that include folk songs, folk dances, arts, crafts, ethnic foods, traditional sports, and many more.

6) Darjeeling Carnival

About – It is a 10-day carnival, includes rock and band music in English, Bengali and Nepali by the localities, painting and photo exhibitions, poetry reading sessions by different groups and many more such activity.

7) Khangchendzonga Tourist festival

About – It offers fun activities like white-water rafting, kayaking, trekking, mountain biking, traditional sports and bird- watching. The festival also includes Flower exhibitions, traditional crafts and ethnic food and costume stalls.

8) Ziro Festival of Music

About – A Musical Extravaganza that showcases the talent of independent artists in India. Festival is an amalgam of vibrant culture, music, and art. Initiated in 2012, spans over four days and is hosted by the members of the Apatani tribe in Ziro.

When :- September | Where :- Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh

9) International Himalayan Festival

About – It is organized to honor the Dalai Lama’s Nobel Peace Prize award with cultural shows and exhibitions, mainly by the artists of the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts, local craftsmen, social groups and school children.

When :- December | Where :- Tsuglagkhang / The Hotel Bhagsu Grnd, McLeod Ganj

10) Shimla Summer Festival

About – It is a 5 day long with gala of musical performances, cultural attractions, folk performances, local handicraft exhibitions, as well as with quirky activities like fashion shows, dog shows, stalls that sell artisan ware and serve up local cuisine.
